Acting President and Prime Minister of Guyana, H.E Moses Nagamootoo on Sunday heaped
praises on the three brothers of the Foster’s households who are the inspiration behind two of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisations – the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, M.S and the ST. Francis Community Developers. Nagamootoo who deputised for Club Patron H.E President David Granger, who is on a state visit to the United Kingdom, hailed the outstanding work of Keith, Alex and Hilbert Foster who he described as role models, visionary leaders and agents of positive change.
The Acting President, who was visibly impressed by the work of both organisations, expressed hope that more leaders can emulate the Foster’s in making a positive difference in the lives of others. The Acting President stated, “From what has been done by the Club and the Foster brothers, they have by example shown us we can change the image of our country, we can change the image of our society and instead of negatives, we can inject positives; we can inject confidence…. That there are always people in our society like the Foster’s, who are prepared and can lift them up.”
Nagamootoo made the remarks during the Club’s 27th Annual Awards Ceremony where over $3M worth of Prizes and donations were distributed to Club members, Retired Teachers, Law Enforcement Officers, Teachers of the Year, Outstanding Cricket Coaches, Cricket Clubs,
Churches, NGO’s and Sporting organisations. West Indies player Shimron Hetmyer was also honoured in recognition of his test debut VS Pakistan. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation saying, “I want to thank the Foster Family and the RHTY&SC today for this wonderful demonstration of bringing various parts of our country under one roof and to give thanks and appreciation to the efforts that has been made to uplift standards and performances.” He urged the three brothers to maintain the high standards they have set themselves and expressed confidence that the Club would continue to excel in the future.
Keith Foster, the eldest of the three brothers, is the President of the RHTY&SC which he co-founded in 1990 and also served as President of the Berbice Cricket Board between 2008 to 2014. Under his leadership, the BCB reached the highest level in its 75 years existence. Under Alex’s leadership, the ST. Francis Community Developers have won several major international awards including three Commonwealth Youth Service Awards. The ST. Francis Club has been involved in several multi-million dollars projects including the recent commissioning of several Greenhouses and fishing nurseries.
The Club also constructed a massive Youth Complex including a Training Centre, Conference Hall, Music Centre, Luxurious Guest House for visitors, Computer Centre and Research Centre.
Hilbert, the youngest is the Secretary/CEO of the RHTY&SC and has spearheaded over 7000 programmes/activities, while as Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee under his brother’s Presidency, he raised $20M in finance and other donations to host over 50 cricket tournaments and close to 1700 programmes/activities under numerous sub-headings. Hilbert, in response to the praise of the Prime Minister and numerous other speakers, stated that while he and his brothers work hard, they are surrounded by a wonderful team of both young and experienced administrators along with visionary advisors. The dedication of the Foster brothers, he stated is the result of growing up in poverty, a strong desire to assist others and the guidance of their single parent mother, Claudette, who taught her sons to always remember that no matter how poor you are, there is always someone poorer than you.
