Massy Berbice will host an inaugural Fitness Walk on Sunday as part of the company’s planned activities across the Group to commemorate World Occupational Safety and Health Month, which is being celebrated this month.
A press release from the company stated that the theme for the event is “Willpower knows no obstacles.” World Health Day was celebrated on April 7 and the activity also forms part of that celebration.
“It sends out the call for all to become actively involved in their own health by exercising regularly and follows from the bigger 10km fitness run that is done annually in Georgetown during the month of September when professional athletes compete in preparation for the South American race,” the release said.
Massy Berbice intends to make this an annual Berbice event and is inviting corporate Berbice to join in participation and helping to raise awareness levels among the working class, especially as it relates to fitness.
The proposed route is from No. 2 Village, East Canje (in front of Speedy Trading), through to Princess Elizabeth Road then to Massy Industries, 2 Strand New Amsterdam, Berbice. The walk is expected to start promptly at 6:30 hrs.
Immediately after the walk, participants are invited to join the company for a short awareness session on leading a healthy lifestyle, which will be facilitated by a medical professional. There will be prizes up for grabs for the top three finishers and the organisation with the most representatives.
Participants can assemble at Massy Industries at 06:00hrs since transportation will be provided to the starting point.
