Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter to the Editor attributed to People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Member of Parliament Harry Gill carried in the Kaieteur News Edition of April 19, 2017 and Captioned “Ministry of Health needs to investigate this conspiracy in Region 5”
In his letter to the Editor, MP Gill declares inter alia that a “high profile APNU+AFC Councillor in Region 5 who was being treated at the Fort Wellington Cottage Hospital (FWCH) for a medical condition was and I quote: “being given more medication than required”.
What qualifications does MP Gill possess which gives him the right to so confidently declare how much medication a patient should or should not get?
Additionally, according to the MP, Staff Nurse/Midwife Sherilyn Marks who works at the hospital had sent a letter to Minister of Health, Volda Lawrence in which she expressed concern about the “…prolonged administration of the injection Pethidine” to the patient.
The same question can be asked of Staff Nurse/Midwife Sherilyn Nurse: On what professional basis did she arrive at the conclusion that a patient with a known condition was getting more medication than required?
What are her qualifications which allow her to pronounce on these matters?
Are Ms. Marks and MP Gill hallucinating? Or are they both bedeviled by a desire to be obnoxious? Mr. Editor any sick person, be it an APNU+AFC Councillor or ordinary member of the public is entitled to medical attention and to medication prescribed by a Doctor.
Indeed a deeper investigation into the motives behind the scurrilous allegations made by Ms. Marks and regurgitated by MP Gill, will unearth some very personal reasons for their bizarre attempts to scandalize the highly qualified and competent Doctors who make up the Staff of the FWCH.

Regional Executive Officer
