Wellman Demerara, Trophy Stall Essequibo and Permaul’s Berbice registered victories when
the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association Masters Inter County T20 tournament commenced yesterday at Ogle Community Centre ground.
Wellman Demerara defeated Permaul’s Berbice by nine wickets in the opening fixture. Batting first Permaul’s Berbice scored 150 all out in 20 overs. Khemraj Sumair made 42, Anil Beharry 31 and Jaga Bhoj 21. Clive Canterbury, David Harper and Raymond Harper took two wickets each. Wellman Demerara responded with 151-1 in 18.1 overs. Jagdesh Persaud struck 62 while Ramo Malone made 48 and Raymond Harper 18.
Trophy Stall Essequibo beat Valvoline Demerara by 74 runs. Trophy Stall Essequibo batted first and posted 187-3 in 19.5 overs. Anthony Persaud stroked 88 not out, Ramesh Narine slammed an unbeaten 62 and Mohamed Rafeek got 25.
Valvoline Demerara was sent packing for 113 in 16.2 overs in reply. Greg De Franca made 24 and Fazleem Mohamed 23. Ramesh Narine captured 4-17 and Richie Bishop 3-30.
Permaul’s Berbice overcame Trophy Stall Essequibo by seven wickets. Trophy Stall Essequibo managed 171-9, taking first strike. Rafeek hit 44 and Sahadeo Hardaiow 38. Kash Lutchman and Ravi Lutchman snared three wickets apiece. Permaul’s Berbice responded with 172-3 in 18.2 overs. Khemraj Sumair hammered 96 while Eon Abel made 35. Narine had 2-31.
Wellman Demerara beat Valvoline Demerara by five wickets. Valvoline Demerara took first strike and were bowled out for 126 in 16.5 overs. Robert Mohan made 40 while Greg De Franca got 39. Mahendra Arjune claimed 4-23 and Clive Canterbury 2-14. Wellman Demerara reached 132-5 in 18.4 overs in reply. Wayne Jones hit 37, Lloyd Rooplall 36 and Arjune 22.
The competition continues today from 09:30hrs. Trophy Stall Essequibo will face Wellman Demerara and Valvoline Demerara will play Permaul’s Berbice in the final preliminary round games after which the top two teams will meet in the final from 13:30hrs.
There will also be a female matchup featuring Mike’s Wellwoman and Trophy Stall Angels. Fans will also be entertained by Caribbean Hot Shots band while there will also be a well stock bar and Bar-Be-Cue on sale. (Zaheer Mohamed)
