Kiskadee Kids Daycare & Playgroup held a Childcare Enhancement Workshop in an effort to increase the knowledge of caregivers employed by the institution.
The one-day session which was facilitated by Ms. Bonita Harris under the theme “Raising Responsible Children” was held last Saturday, at its Head Office on Queen Street, Kitty.
The informative discussion opened with the facilitator requesting from the caregivers their own understanding of two pertinent questions about the various types of children’s behaviour.
The two questions she sought responses for were: What does a responsible child look like? What does an irresponsible child look like?
Participants in response spoke of discipline, good behaviour, caring and giving as among the characteristics of a responsible child, while the total opposite was attributed to an irresponsible child.
Ms. Harris told the gathering, “Caring is a part or their (children) nature and sharing has to be taught, shown and encouraged.” She also emphasised that “Children are not selfish; they just feel entitled to all things.”
According to Ms. Harris, teachers need to be responsible, and being responsible is the ability to respond.
“Children can become responsible if teachers, parents and all adults model responsibility and there are different ways of being responsible, one being physical touch,” Ms. Harris said.
The caregivers in closing remarks spoke of how enlightening the session was and promised to utilise the information received to benefit the children and by extension, the institution.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
