Police have detained a gun-toting 67-year-old woman who shot a 23-year-old maintenance worker in the abdomen after mistaking him for a thief.
The incident occurred at around 06.45 hrs yesterday in the vicinity of the Alpha Hotel at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, where the victim is employed.
Brandon Collins, of Manchester Village, Corentyne, was reportedly shot while clearing vines from a fence that separates the Alpha Hotel from the woman’s property.
It is alleged that Collins, who had a cutlass, had clambered onto the fence. The woman, who has a licenced firearm, ordered the man to climb down, then discharged a round, which struck Collins in the abdomen.
He was admitted the Georgetown Public Hospital, where his condition is said to be stable. The bullet is said to have passed through his body.
