Dear Editor,
I wish to bring to your attention, where for over three years now, I have been subject to constant attack by members of the Guyana Police Force. It all started after I reported policemen who are issuing traffic tickets to drivers and in a few days they will come back, take the ticket and money from you and destroy the ticket. I reported this matter to the Police Complain Authority, and an investigation was carried out.
After they found out it was me who reported them, on many occasions, the police will pound my vehicle HC 4370 for the whole day. Charges will be laid and I am taken in front of the court resulting in me paying huge sums of money in fine, ranging from $20,000.00 and beyond. I went on several occasions to the Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Leslie James, who on one occasion asked me and family to leave his office.
I wrote several letters to the Police Complain Authority and the Minister of Public Security. I went on several occasions to the office of the Minister of Public Security, to date no word/action. I went to the Office of The Commissioner of Police and spoke to Senior Superintendent, Singh who told you to put my complaint in writing. After saying all of this, I must tell you these are the reason why Guyana has such a suicide rate where people are taking their own lives.
I will not go down that road as it crossed my mind several times, because l have three (3) children and a wife who depend on me to provide for them. I call on the Commissioner of Police and The Minister of Public Security to please look into these police ranks on The West Coast/West Bank of Demerara, which I find to be very corrupt. This matter is getting out of
hand and no one seems to be taking any action. I call on the Minister to have more out-reach programmes where people can make their complaints, because the Police Complaints Authority are not acting on reports when members report on police corruption
