With a large field from across the country anticipated to register for the start of competition today in the Bel Air Lions/Supligen Domino Tournament, the organisers are predicting a very competitive event.
The competition which is being organised to raise funds for much needed community projects is already touted to exceed last year’s entries including teams from Linden, Berbice and Essequibo.
The tournament is scheduled to end tomorrow and the venue is the Bel Air Lions Den, Enachu Street, Section ‘N’ Campbellville.
Lion Orlando James, who spoke with Kaieteur Sport, recently confirmed that they will easily surpass the original target of 32 teams with teams still registering even beyond yesterday’s deadline.
Already, main sponsor Supligen had announced its intention to offer as incentive 12 packets of Supligen for teams registering early and they’ve responded positively.
Defending champion Sheriff Street Saga Boys said they are confident that they will retain the title won at the inaugural tournament and has picked a strong side to ensure that the trophy remains with them.
The proceeds will go towards community projects that are geared to benefit the lesser fortunate within the society.
Among the teams invited to participate are: Killers, Upper Level, Sherriff Street Saga Boys, Masters, Scramblers, Ray’s One Stop, All Seasons, GGMC, Thunder, Strikers, F&H Supremes, Impressers, Frankie’s, Lions A, Spartans, Lions B, Transport, Freddie’s 6, Police and NIS.
Over $500,000 in total prize monies are up for grabs with the winning team set to receive $250,000, 2nd place $150,000 and 3rd place $100,000 along with trophies.
Entrance fee is $12,000 per team and the Most Valuable Player will receive $10,000 and a case of Supligen.
The tournament is being run by the Georgetown Dominoes Association.
