Police are to seek legal advice today to ascertain whether a Rupununi resident will be charged for the murder of his wife, who was found dead on a roadway last Sunday.
Police said that a post mortem has revealed that the victim, 47-year-old Justil Leonard of Shulinab village, died from a fractured skull and blunt trauma.
It is alleged that the couple was consuming wine at a shop shortly before the woman met her demise.
The husband had told police that he had headed home, leaving his partner behind. He then claimed that when he reached home, he realized that he did not have the house keys and headed back to the area where he had left his wife.
He claimed that he found her lying lifeless on the roadway.
Police sources said that they have received reports that the woman was beaten. The detained man is said to be cooperating with investigators.
