– Jubilee Payment Plan rakes in $590M
Minister within the Ministry of Communities, with responsibility of Housing, Valerie Patterson, revealed yesterday that a total of 2015 house lots were allocated for last year.
This achievement, the Minister boasted, is more than 100 percent of the annual target of 1000 allocations.
This ‘remarkable’ number, the Minister said, includes the lots that were made available to policemen and policewomen via special arrangements.
The exercise saw some law enforcement officials at Leonora, Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara), Fort Wellington, Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice); and Albion in Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne), benefitting.
The Minister informed also that 221 regularized squatters received allocation letters of the target of 400 regularized squatters.
Jubilee Payment Plan
The Jubilee Payment Plan was introduced as a special payment plan for the month of May 2016 for beneficiaries of government house lots, priced $3M and below, in residential areas and came at a time when Guyana was celebrating its Golden Jubilee.
Under this 50/50 payment plan, persons who would have paid 50 percent of the cost of their house lots by May 1, 2016 were ultimately eligible for 50 percent discount on the balance.
Between the months of March to May, a number of persons benefitted from the Jubilee Payment Plan, the Minister reported yesterday.
“2,881 applicants benefitted from the plan, paying a total of $590M into the Agency and receiving a discount of $590M,” the Minister revealed.
Jubilee Home Improvement Subsidy
In recognition of Guyana’s 50th Anniversary Year of Independence also, the Ministry of Communities through the CH&PA had announced the distribution of Home Improvement Subsidies. 300 of these subsidies were distributed.
The subsidy was provided to homeowners to improve their homes and offered beneficiaries a maximum of $50,000 worth in building materials, redeemable via vouchers, to effect approved improvement works to their existing basic building.
Beneficiaries were drawn from all Administrative Regions with the exception of Regions: Five (Mahaica/Berbice) and Eight (Pomeroon Supenaam). She explained that four persons responded from Region Five, however those persons were not qualified for the subsidy. Region Eight on the other hand, does not have any existing housing arrangements.
