– more than 60 employed
“We believe in the Guyanese economy and as such we are investing here,” says Rebecca Zhang, Managing Director of the newly opened multimillion dollar Freshco Supermarket.
Through an investment that is upwards of US $1M, Guyana now has yet another Mega supermarket to meet the needs of a growing East bank Demerara population.
Located at Lot 1 B Public Road, Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, the Freshco Supermarket is geared to meet the shopping needs of, but is not limited to residents along the East Bank.
Rebecca Zhang, Managing Director, says the idea was birthed after a trip along the East Bank three years ago.
“As Americans on vacation, I and my dad took a drive from the airport to Georgetown looking for a quality, comfortable shopping location to get some beverages and other supplies. Tried as we did, we couldn’t find any of an international standard to make us feel like we were at home.”
This, she said, spawned an idea: “This is a beautiful country, but it needs some investment to serve as an example of what people should be able to experience when shopping for supplies: food items, groceries, baby items etc. I shared the idea with my dad, and he was all for it, so I went back to the US and began planning the way forward.”
“After multiple consultations and some setbacks, I was able to convince some investors to buy in to the idea and now here we are. There was no major launch just yet, but we will eventually. However, we could not wait until the festive season to get started with sales to save residents along the East Bank corridor from having to go all the way to the Capital city to get much needed supplies so here we are…our doors are open and we are ready to serve. Our location is spacious and carries wide variety of brands as possible to cater to the needs of all levels of shoppers. We also have excellent parking space and we ensured that we created employment for upwards of 60 people.
Additionally, we will soon be launching our international Chinese/ Indonesian cuisine Restaurant under the Freshco brand.
Our tagline is Fresco…It’s the way to go.
