Herbert Henry, the detective who worked on the Kaieteur News grenade attack
back in June, was yesterday awarded best cop for his division, at an annual Christmas luncheon and award ceremony at the Brickdam Police Station.
Henry walked away with the Best Cop prize for the Guyana Police Force (GPF) ‘A’ Division which is headed by Commander Clifton Hicken.
The Police Sergeant was commended for his exemplary work in the force. Throughout the year, Henry was the lead detective in a number of cases. Those investigated are currently before the court.
Some of the cases the detective would have worked on, included the murder of 75-year-old Pairadeau (Perry) Mars, who was strangled in his Lot 395 Bissessar Street, Prashad Nagar home last May and for which five teenagers are before the court.
The professor’s body was found with his hands and feet bound with duct-tape and his mouth gagged. Duct-tape was also wrapped around his neck. Five teenagers are currently before the court for the professor’s murder.
Sergeant Henry was the lead detective who worked on the murder of 53-year-old Terry Lakhan, who was strangled by two men, who then placed his body in a wardrobe and tied a rope around his neck to make it appear like a suicide.
For Lakhan’s murder, two former colleagues are before the court.
The Best Cop was also part of the investigation which led to the arrest of an alleged trigger man who was part of a gang that gunned down former murder accused Orin David.
On August 1, David was gunned down in front of his Lot 89 Laing Avenue, Georgetown home in the presence of his reputed wife and other relatives allegedly by an Agricola gang.
Constable Trotz was awarded second Best Cop.
Both cops received prizes from the police and businessmen.
