The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) has been invited by the University of the West Indies (UWI) St
Augustine campus in Trinidad to play in t20 tournament from January 5-15 next year and Jamaica Tallawahs opener, Guyanese Trevon Griffith, Jaguars all-rounder Chris Barnwell and former West Indies batsman and new WICB Selector Travis Dowlin are a part of a 33-man training squad preparing for the T&T trip.
The Queenstown based Club, which produced Test players Cyril Christiani, Robert Christiani, Lance Gibbs, Clive Lloyd, Roy Fredericks, Maurice Fernandes, Roger Harper and Dowlin, is looking forward to this tournament and a squad of players has been named.
The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) was established in 1912 by Portuguese businessmen of British Guiana (including M. Gonsalves, E.C. Buck and Joseph Gonsalves), who were not allowed to be members of the British-dominated Georgetown Cricket Club in its early years. DCC too restricted its membership in its early years – to Portuguese only.
In 2009, DCC won the national club 20/20 competition and participated in the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) Regional Twenty20 cricket competition in Trinidad.
In July 2012 DCC celebrated its centenary year. Celebrations included a visit by the Atlantis Cricket Club of New York, a fund-raising costume party, a dinner and ball by the Hotel Tower pool side, and other activities.
The following players have been short listed for possible selection.
Chris Barnwell, Raymond Perez, Brian Sattaur, Jahron Byron, Cohen Ismond, Ashmead Nedd, Sachin Singh, Sherfane Rutherford, Kevin Boodie, Steven Sankar, Tevin Imlach, Kemo Paul, Totoram Bishun, Paul Wintz, Andrew Lyght Jr, Antonell Atwell, Kemol Savory, Andre Stoll, Sagar Hatheramani, Carlton Jacques, Dexter George, Andrew Gibson, Dennis Squires, Trevon Griffith, Travis Dowlin, Romaine Muniram, Cleon McEwan, Denver Greaves, Darwin Christian, Jonathan Foo, Utom Monroe, Alphius Bookie, Qumar Torrington.
