Federal Winners gain walkover from Hi Stars
Group leaders Silver Shattas and Federal Winners Connection gained full points with contrasting wins as Shattas humbled Milerock 2-0 after goals from Damian Williams and Colwyn Drakes, while Federal Winners Connection won
when Hi Stars failed to turn up for their game on time, thus a walkover was ruled by the game officials, Sunday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
The first game failed to materialize after nearly an hour as a walkover was handed to Winners Connection for their second win in as many games, but on a wet outfield Silver Shattas, who lost in the final last year, were able to come away with a 2-0 win over the hapless Milerock, who lost for the second time.
Playing the night cap saw in the 41st minute Shattas gaining a corner and the shot taken by Jashawn Freeman was headed past the Milerock goalkeeper by Williams for a 1-0 lead.
The half time came with the score in favour of Shattas 1-0.
After play resumed a nice buildup was completed when a through ball from Dexter Garraway was planted into the back of the net in the 75th minute by Drakes and Winners Connection were in control 2-0 which they never gave up and won comfortably.
Tomorrow another double header will be played in the two group format to determine the final four from the ten teams in this tournament.
In game one at 18.00hrs Amelia’s Ward Panthers face Botafago and the second at 20.00hrs brings together Net Rockers and Kwawkani Strikers.
