The Guyana Defense Force continued their flawless run of form in the second season of the Guyana Football Federation / STAG Elite League by chalking up yet another win, this time they humbled home team Monedderlust when action continued on Friday night last at the #5 ground, West Coast Berbice.
The opening match at the venue produced a 1-1 stalemate between the newly added duo of Victoria Kings and Topp XX. The Kings took the lead 7 minutes into the match through a Kenroy Alfred goal.
The East coast side enjoyed the lead until the second half when Terrence Aaron squared things up for Topp XX four minutes after the break.
Monedderlust, always a tough act on home turf lived up to that billing as they surprised the Army by rocking the nets 8 minutes into the match. Even though the Soldiers equalised in the 26th minute thanks to an Aubrey Greene effort, the home side stood firm in keeping the visitors at bay.
They {Monedderlust} almost succeeded in salvaging a point form the match but the Army’s persistence finally broke the back of the home team’s defence as they fired in two unanswered goals, both coming off the boot of Sherwyn Caesar in the 84th and 86th minute to seal full points for the Soldiers.
A triple header is set for tomorrow at the Buxton ground from 16:00hrs when Fruta Conquerors battle the Guyana Defense Force in what is anticipated to be a fierce battle between the two top sides given the absence from the SEL of reigning champions Slingerz FC along with second place Alpha United, Pele and the Georgetown Football Club.
Following the opening match, Monedderlust will oppose Victoria Kings with the night capper between home team Buxton United and Topp XX.
