Twenty affiliates of the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) were in attendance when the executives of that entity raised the curtains on a three-day, Level One Coaches course yesterday and concludes tomorrow afternoon.
The course is financed by the Pan American Weightlifting Federation in conjunction with the International Weightlifting Federation and has attracted participants from several organisations and gyms around the country.
President of the GAWA, Frank Tucker, delivered opening remarks and welcomed the participants. He was grateful for the support from the parent bodies and urged the participants to make good use of the opportunity to improve on their knowledge and techniques of the sport.
Director of Sports, Christopher Jones and Vice President of the Guyana Olympic Association, Noel Adonis, also delivered opening remarks while echoing Mr. Tucker’s sentiments.
The course is facilitated by world renowned sports scientist, Dr. Kyle Pierce, of the Louisiana State University, Shreveport Louisiana U.S.A., and successful participants will be promoted to Pan American Certified level one coaches upon completion.
