The Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) has denied that its Managing Director, Dr. Richard Van West Charles, was investigated by its Board of Directors.
According to GWI in a statement yesterday, a recent newspaper report that he was being investigated are “untruthful” and “totally incorrect”- “…and GWI wishes to note that the Managing Director was never under investigation as was stated”.
It was reported also that GWI had revoked the appointment of the Chief Internal Auditor, Anand Bharat, who was said to be behind the investigation of his boss for possible procurement breaches.
GWI also insisted that the Managing Director had nothing to do with the revocation of the appointment.
“With respect to the position of Chief Internal Auditor, the decision to revoke the appointment was taken by the Human Resources Sub Committee of the GWI Board and not Vice Chairman of the Board, Mrs. Patricia Chase-Green as was stated.
It should also be noted that this appointment was irregular in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.”
The appointment of Bharat was reportedly made by a board member.
The post was advertised a few weeks ago and Bharat, who has been working at the state-owned entity for a number of years, was chosen.
