Dear Editor;
I write to highlight a recent occurrence that happened in my community of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice. During the recent August holidays, a Cricket Academy (2 weeks duration) was held by the Bush Lot United Sports Club / Bush Lot Rising Stars First Division Cricket Team. This Academy attracted twenty students, my son included, with an age range of 8 — 16 years; many of whom were from poverty stricken homes. This program was run free of cost to the participants.
Editor, this program was run under the supervision of one Mr Saywack a stalwart in young people development. However, the point I want to make is the lack of support from the Police in these ventures. Mr Saywack was using a “Cricket Net” in his program and this net was stolen one night from under the eyes of the security at the Bush Lot Secondary School and a report was made to the Fort Wellington Police Station and to date no action has been taken. Further a letter was sent to the Commander Mr L. Amsterdam on this issue (letter attached) yet no action was taken, hence my letter to the media. It is my hope that this letter will attract the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ramnarine and then maybe some action will be taken.
Concerned Parent.
