The two vessels, MV Sabanto and MV Kanawan which ply the Essequibo River area are now back in operation.
This was according to the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson, during a press conference yesterday at the Ministry, Kingston Georgetown.
Meanwhile, with regards to the MV Kimbia, it was revealed that this vessel is docked and the sum of $194M has been approved to have its engines rehabilitated at Damien Shipyards in the Netherlands.
The vessel will be back in operation by the first quarter of 2017, the Minister said.
In the interim, Lady Northcote will continue to ply the Region One (Barima/Waini) route while the MV Barima, which is also in dock, will be handed back to management by early next month. When it returns to operation, it will supplement the Lady Northcote.
Meanwhile, Cabinet has given its “No objection” to several Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) projects, which includes the allocation of $65M for the repair of the T&HD’s good wharves including the one at Kingston, Georgetown.
