Herstelling Rangers and Speed Boat recorded victories when the Regal Sports softball tournament commenced yesterday at Gandhi Youth Organisation ground.
Herstelling Rangers defeated Speed Boat by five wickets. Batting first, Speed Boat managed 107-9 off their allocation of 15 overs. R. Esau and Shazim Hussain made 14 each as Michael Alexander and Amir Khan claimed three wickets apiece. Herstelling Rangers responded with 112-5 in 13 overs. Zameer Hassan got 27 and Rawl Reid 18.
Herstelling Rangers overcame Ariel by six wickets. Ariel took first strike and were bowled out for 77 with Ariel Persaud getting 20 and Dharam Persaud 17; Reid and Kishore Ramsarran snared three wickets apiece. Rangers replied with 78-4. Shameer Fazal cracked 22 and Vijay Persaud 20. Speed Boat beat Ariel by 10 wickets in their encounter. Ariel mustered 119 all out, batting first.
Shazim Hussain took three wickets for Speed Boat who responded with 120 with out lost in five overs. Anand Bharat struck 61 while Beepaul Bandhoo made an even half century. (Zaheer Mohamed).
