Dear Editor,
Brave and resolute pursuit by members of the Concerned Citizens of Enmore Policing Group of an armed suspect in a robbery which occurred at Logwood, Enmore, Monday led to his arrest on the Enmore Public road after he had entered a minibus. A 9mm semiautomatic pistol and twelve matching rounds of ammunition were found on his person.
A businesswoman’s house was invaded by five males who ransacked the building and took away an unknown amount of cash and jewellery. After an alarm was raised, Policing Group members, together with residents, responded and cornered a minibus which the suspect had entered and made the arrest.
Police from Cove & John pursued a car which the other four bandits took away from a taxi driver but was unable to make any arrests. The arrested suspect was handed over to the Police for questioning.
This incident underscores the continued relevance and effectiveness of Community Policing in Guyana. I understand there was a release in one of the dailies which gave Police credit for the arrest. This is not true. The Police did NOTHING in this arrest. In fact, they were about 10 feet away from the getaway car but did nothing to overtake it. That raises several questions.
