Dear Editor;
As I look into life’s settings, I cannot but help embracing the ideal analysis for success in almost any field of profession, be it academia, sports or the arts. The RIO OLYMPICS has convinced me, that we as human beings can rise to unprecedented heights of achievements, regardless of our background or setbacks. For the past three weeks, multiply millions of people right across the globe have witnessed the phenomenal gathering of nations into Brazil — Rio; be it on the internet or their television at home. Others have had the golden opportunities of witnessing these games on site. They took time off from their schedules, work or profession to travel to Rio. They were not disappointed, I am certain. Spectacular, outstanding or remarkable would be inadequate words to truly describe these events.
Print media, commentators and social media have come together to bring us amazing human stories of first time Olympians and seasoned Olympians that have climbed the ladder of success with a dint of faith, courage and strength. All be it; to the glorification of nations.
The gold medals received at the end of every event, represent and are symbolic of, not only the acknowledgement of a winner, but it speaks of and demonstrates the discipline, integrity and audacity of the individual players and teams.
The quality of character and the humility of the mind are sublime and akin to a certain pedigree of men and women that serve as an inspiration to those that are yet to emerge as champions. The highest ideals of life will always come with a price, but some would rather not pay that price that true champions pride themselves in. One thing is certain true champions are not selfish, hateful, distasteful or unpleasant. Rather they are loving, kind, considerate of others and patient. I have seen these qualities played out in these games that have created champions of champions.
Editor, the last two nights before the closing ceremony — Friday and Saturday revealed something of interest that I feel compelled to share with our readers. The unique and extraordinary performance of two nations: First and foremost Jamaica Friday night and Brazil on Saturday night – Usain St. Leo Bolt for Jamaica and Neymar for Brazil.
Editor, this is what I discerned; these two nations demonstrated on the race-track and the soccer-field the three C’s — Co-OORDINATION, Co-OPERATION AND COHESION. The three C’s as I see it, are what resulted in the Olympic Gold medal going to both teams. Finally, Editor we in Guyana looking in the field of politics, our Politicians need to take a lesson from these super-stars that have proven to the world that they are true champions, not because of where they came from, but from what they are made of.
In the game of life, regardless of whether you are a policeman, politician or sports person, you will never reach the highest ideal of life if you lack faith, courage and strength, and if you fail to demonstrate discipline and integrity. The quality of character and humility of mind are sublime and akin to a high pedigree that serves as an inspiration to those that are coming after you.
And for this very reason, allegorically, I dare say, that our political leaders should embrace the same analysis that speaks of Co-Ordination Co-Operation and Cohesion. May God help them to look inwardly and humble themselves under the Mighty hands of God, that we may be proud of them, as true champions of champions
The spirit of the Olympic Games will always foster the idea that we can accomplish our goals in life, and fulfill our God given purposes.
