Dear Editor,
It is with disgust and frustration I write so that the relevant authorities should take note.
On a daily basis members of the public are frustrated due to the inefficient way services are offered at this office. One could see a number of people each day at this place with numerous complaints of not receiving their certificates (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc) after applying for over two months and more.
The way business is carried out at this office makes it easier for employees get involved in corrupt practices. Compared to the services of the Passport Office and Police Clearance, GRO is in a mess. When you apply for a passport or a police clearance it is clear that you wait between five to seven days respectively.
For a birth certificate or a marriage certificate members of the public are not informed about the waiting time; it can probably take six months and more. As a nation we cannot continue to have our public service functioning in this manner.
After fifty years of Independence, we have a situation in which the public has to wait months for a birth certificate. Some drastic measures need to be taken to revamp this entire department. The public should be given value for money; it is the tax payers who have these people in office.
