The A. Ally and Sons Basketball Competition for teams in Berbice is set to continue today with one more game. The action is expected to switch to the West Berbice where the lone West Berbice team Ithaca Hardliners will play host to Smithfield Rockers from 16:00hrs on the Ithaca Basketball Court, West Bank, Berbice.
The six-team competition has seen the teams being divided into two groups with group ‘A’ comprising of Smithfield Rockers, Fyrish Black Sharks and Ithaca Hardliners of West Berbice.
The teams making up group ‘B’ are Rose Hall Town Jammers, Guyana Human Development Centre of Corentyne and New Amsterdam Warriors.
The teams in each group will play each other once with the top two advancing to play the top two in the other group. The winners will advance to the semifinals.
Matches in the tournament are being held every Sunday.
Cash, trophies and other incentives will be presented to the top three teams with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and other outstanding individual performers being awarded.
So far in the competition, Smithfield Rockers gained a walkover from Fyrish Black Sharks and
Rose Hall Town Jammers defeated newcomers Guyana Human Development Centre (GHDC) of Corentyne. The coordinator is Vibert Garrett. (Samuel Whyte)
