It was another depressing day at the Oval as the third day’s play in the fourth and final cricket Test between host West Indies and India was abandoned without ball being bowled.
Less than a session and only 22 overs were possible on day one in which time West Indies lost Leon Johnson (9) and Darren Bravo (10) to reach 62-2 with Kraigg Braithwaite (32) and Marlon Samuels (4) at the crease, while the entire second day was completely washed out.
Hopes were high for a start before lunch since yesterday morning was blessed with blue skies brilliant sunshine but while the pitch and most of the outfield were in a playable condition.
An area near the Western boundary of the ground remained soggy due to faulty drainage and the ground staff forked up the area to aid in the drying process.
It is understood that this area is usually used to accommodate the stage at Carnival Events at the Queen’s Park Oval.
With just two days left in the contest it would take a near miracle for a result to be achieved here especially with more rain forecasted for last night.
India have already won the series 2-nil with a win in Antigua and St Lucia but they must beat West Indies to remain the world’s number one Test team.
Play is scheduled to commence at 09:30hrs today but that is highly unlikely.
Scores: West Indies 62 for 2 (Brathwaite 32*) v India.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
