– Re-testing of seniors on the cards
With the increase of fatal deaths on the country’s roadways, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan has outlined several measures that will be implemented to address this issue.
One of the many he mentioned was the need to examine the procedures pertaining to the issuing of drivers’ licences to persons.
Ramjattan made these remarks during the launch of a Road Safety Magazine at the Traffic Headquarters in Eve Leary yesterday. The magazine is published by the Guyana National Road Safety Council (NRSC).
“We have to do something about that because lots of people who get driver’s licences seem not to know how to drive,” Ramjattan said.
He also added that re-testing of senior citizens to ensure that they are fit to drive is also up for consideration.
Delivering remarks at the event, also, was the Traffic Chief, Dion Moore, who explained that his department is collaborating with the Cops and Faith Network to have them invigilate and mark the theoretical exams that need to be taken before licences are issued, and to monitor the practical examination, as well.
This particular measure, he pointed out, is to ensure transparency and reduce any form of unprofessional conduct by police ranks, Moore said.
Over the years, persons desirous of obtaining a driver’s licence have registered their concerns with the process of obtaining the document. Many have also reported the ‘high prices’ being called by Law Enforcement Officials who have claimed to have ‘links’ to obtain drivers’ licences.

Good move. And who or what will ‘monitor’ Faith Network? Which Faith?
Procedure or criteria?
