Angoy Avenue Cricket Club (AACC) of New Amsterdam and the Bush Lot Cricket Club
of West Coast Berbice were recently the recipients of assistance compliments of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC), Pepsi Under-19 Team.
On Wednesday last the team donated a pair of batting pad, wicket-keeping pads and gloves and a basketball to the AACC, while the West Berbice club was presented with four trophies for the presentation ceremony of their annual Academy.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC, Hilbert Foster at the presentation ceremony informed that on an annual basis they make it a priority to assist other sports clubs in Berbice to fulfill their respective mandate.
Foster proudly stated that Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation is the only one to assist competitors to improve themselves as it was important to assist every youth to reach their potential.
For 2016 they have assisted a total of 39 sports clubs, NGO’s, Churches and Schools with over $1.2M worth of trophies and educational materials. The Pepsi Under-19 team includes national junior players Brandon Prashad, Kevin Sinclair, Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Slyus Tyndall and Plaffina Millington.
Foster stated that the team was proud to assist the two clubs and urged their members to always strive for excellence and to use the donation for its intended purpose. He expressed profound disappointment at the state of Berbice cricket which is currently in turmoil due to a Court injunction while issuing an appeal for everyone to work together to return the county to its former glory.
Secretary Foster recalled that when he resigned as Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee in 2014 after completing over 1500 programmes/activities over a seven years period, Berbice cricket was at its strongest level but in a short two year span has fallen apart due to matters unrelated to the game.
The experienced sports administrator stated that unless something is done by those in charge of Berbice cricket, it would die a painful and swift death. The RHTY&SC he stated would continue to play its part and issued an appeal to other major cricket clubs in Berbice to assist less fortunate cricket clubs so that the game can improve.
Representatives of both Clubs expressed gratitude to the RHTY&SC and the Pepsi Under-19 team for the assistance. President of the Bush Lot Club Mr. Robbie Saywack stated that the RHTY&SC has been the inspiration between his club’s mission to assist youths that the Bush Lot Cricket Club was using them as a model to emulate.
