Users of the Louisa Row road can now breathe a sigh of relief as the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s Special Projects Unit, in collaboration with the Mayor and City Council’s Engineers’ Department completed rehabilitation works on the road, yesterday.
This will enable easier access to Albouystown, Charlestown, East Ruimveldt, West La Penitence and other neighbouring communities.
Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s Works Clerk, Shemroy Skeffers, said that rehabilitation works started last Thursday and encompassed the roadway from Princes Street to Sussex Street, using a crusher-run surface. It was capped with asphaltic concrete and shoulder works were done to improve the area’s aesthetics.
The workers encountered some challenges during rehabilitation, nevertheless they were able to complete the necessary work on the road to allow for the smooth flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s, Time Checker, Dave Danny explained to the Government Information Agency that the workers had to work on Sunday.
“With a very minimal labour force we were able to get a lot of work done. It wasn’t a very smooth terrain, it was really rough and the workers really worked hard to get things done and beautify the site, bringing some renewed energy to the area again,” Danny said.
Raymond Hooper, a resident of Princes Street, praised the rehabilitation works.
“This is a very good compliment to the residents of East, West, North and South, Albouystown, Charlestown, North East, West La Penitence; it is very good venture and good for the road users also.”
Jermaine Higgins, a pedestrian who uses the road daily, also expressed gratitude for the rehabilitation works.
“It’s a diversion. If you did pass here two weeks ago you couldn’t even walk through here cause is some real big holes. Now we get something that somebody could pass through with a stroller or whatever.”
The rehabilitation works on the road came in light of a request by the Mayor and City Council’s Engineers’ Department, to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.
