A doctor and pilot had their hands filled yesterday morning when a woman, on board a flight from
Mahdia to Georgetown, delivered twins in mid-air. This occurred on an aircraft belonging to Roraima Airways.
The woman, 33-year-old Melinda Fraites went to the Mahdia Hospital after experiencing labour pain but was eventually transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), when her blood pressure started to fluctuate.
Accompanied by a doctor, Fraites was placed on a flight to the city. However, her twin babies—a boy and girl couldn’t wait any longer. They had to be delivered by the doctor at 8,000 feet in the air.
At the hospital yesterday, Fraites was given medication and urged to rest since her blood pressure was still high. Her babies were in the incubator and are said to be “stable.”
She has one older child.
