A bail application made by Attorney Mark Conway on behalf of attempted murder accused, Uttanpad
Sewnaraine, was denied by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Sewnaraine, 39, a bus driver of Campbellville, Georgetown was further remanded to prison yesterday for allegedly wounding Selina Ramotar, 29, with intent to commit murder.
Conway told the court that his client is aware of the seriousness of the offence and is willing to abide by any conditions to which bail is granted even if it entails him reporting to the police.
Police Prosecutor, Neville Jeffers, said that the case file is still incomplete since the virtual complainant’s medical certificate is outstanding.
This matter has been adjourned to September 13.
It was reported that Ramotar of Lot 65 David Street, Kitty was stabbed over 20 times about her body by the accused with whom she shares a nine-year-old daughter.
On the evening of July, 9, Sewnarine ambushed Ramotar in her yard while she was returning home after purchasing dinner with her younger sister. He reportedly stabbed the mother of his child about her body with a knife.
Ramotar was admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition.
Last week, Ramotar’s mother, Melina, said that her daughter was discharged from hospital but is unable to move about on her own.
One of Ramotar’s sisters said that the victim ended her relationship with Sewnaraine a while back and he began stalking and threatening her.
