Prison Officer Christopher Elias was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly, for
an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Elias, 24, of 43 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, is accused of being in possession of a .38 revolver on July 24, at Princes Street, Georgetown, when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
It was further alleged that on the same day, he had five rounds of .38 ammunition in his possession when he was not a licenced firearm holder.
Elias was also accused of behaving in a manner intended to provoke Orlando Harris on July 24, at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.
Police Prosecutor, Kevin London told the court that the defendant was among three men in a vehicle that was stopped and searched by police. London said that the illegal gun and ammo were found in the vehicle.
Attorney Melvin Duke asked for his client to be released on reasonable bail. He said that Elias is not the owner of the motorcar and that the gun was not found in his possession.
Duke told the court that his client has been a serving officer for the past six years and never had any problems with the law. The lawyer assured the court that the defendant will attend court as instructed since he poses no risk of flight.
However, Magistrate Daly refused bail and remanded Elias to prison. His next court appearance will be on August 15.
