Following a scintillating performance in the just concluded tournament where he amassed an impeccable 6 points with a positive spread of 589, top seed, James Krakowsky will attempt to replicate that feat when the nation’s top word formers convene at the Herdmanston Lodge, Queenstown for another Open Championship Sunday, July 31.
Despite spelling his way to the top spot Krakowsky will be well aware of the competence of his competitors since several of them had registered 5 points each and had to be separated by dint of their respective spreads. Those players were Kevin Williams (318), Moen Gafoor (312), Curtis Liverpool (295), Leon Belony (60) and Colin Chichester (minus 314). Obviously, these players will come out with a vengeance and aspiring to clinch the top honour this time around. A fiercely contested tournament is, therefore, on the cards.
The organizers are very particular about an early start and advise that registration begins at 09:30hrs while clocks will be started at 10:15hrs sharp. The registration fee is $500 but latecomers would be penalized an additional $200. Further, after the start of the first round, players have an additional 15 minutes to get to his table before being debarred from participation.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers as well as the player with the most bingos. This tournament is sponsored by the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP).
