Dear Editor,
This is my conclusion to my letter published yesterday about the Guyana school of Agriculture. I am informed that the financial situation is as a result of bad management. I’m informed that several animals have had prolonged illnesses and have even died. Mr. Editor, we are still at the tip of the iceberg but I must mention that the workers are in complete disgust since they are constantly mistreated, they don’t have more to give so that area is in shambles.
Imagine sending your child to the Guyana School of Agriculture and them graduating with a Diploma which previously gained them a senior position in the school but now all it does is provide you with a position to work as a labourer. Several persons have completed either of the two Diploma programs offered at the institution and have gone on to work, and the majority of what they did was fetch feed and shovel waste, and when they ask about position on the Farm and increase in wages for their qualification they are being sent home. I was informed Mr. Editor, that there is a man in the position as a stockman that has a Diploma in Agriculture whom has constantly been asking about an increase in salary, but to no avail.
The stockman’s position required less qualification and obviously it attracted a lower salary, but the guy I understand came from a poor family and accepted employment just to have a chance to assist his family. Mr. Editor, it seems as the qualification of some persons are not recognized while some are being over compensated for their qualifications. Why should this be? Is this acceptable?
Paul John
