With this being the 10th anniversary of the event and the country also celebrating its 50th Independence Anniversary the organisers are bent on making the Guyana Cup horserace meet 2016 the best ever.
Organised by the Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club the event is slated for Sunday August 14th at the Port Mourant “Big Yard” Turf Club, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
Eight Races are listed on the day’s programme which has a colossal $22M in cash, trophies and other incentives available.
After a long time a number of horses from overseas are expected to flock to these shores to be a part of the biggest horserace event in Guyana.
Already a number of top animals from neighbouring Suriname have been entered to participate and are expected in the Country this weekend to acclimatize and be on show.
Among them are Wise Secret which already had a race in Guyana and is expected to compete in the E and lower category. On that occasion it did not fear well due to a few faults, but is expected to be at its best this time around.
There is Vaultimore which is entered to participate in the G1 & lower category. Expresso which will compete in the L and lower category and Buffen which is set to run in the K class event.
All the animals despite having different owners will be competing under the “Club Neutral stable”.
According to Coordinator Nasrudeen (Jumbo Jet) Mohamed Jnr the owners are very happy that their animals could get the opportunity to participate in Guyana at one of the largest horserace events here. The organisers are also expressing appreciation to Dr. Dwight Waldron of the Ministry Of Agriculture for making the necessary arrangements to have the animals’ enter the country.
Horses from other countries are also expected to be competing. Also most of the major owners will be importing animals for the jumbo event. Some are already in the country while others are expected within days.
Sponsors are also racing ahead to be on board for the major event with beverage giants Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall, Phaghoo General Store of West Coast, Berbice, Assuria Insurance Company, Prem’s Grocery and Beer Garden, West Coast, Berbice, Fix It Vulcanizing and Tire Shop West Coast, Berbice, Hand In Hand Insurance Company, Colours Boutique of Georgetown, BM Soat Auto Sales, Jameel Bar and Entertainment Lounge, the Muneshwar Store, the Hyper Malt Beverage Company, Rambrich Enterprise of Corentyne and BM Soat Auto Spares are among those on board.
The feature “A” and lower 1600M event has a substantial $4M winners prize in addition to the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $8M.
The co-feature event for 3yrs old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies will see the winner taking home an encouraging $2M and trophy also over 1600M. The winner of the event for two year old West Indies Bred horses gets $1M and trophy over 1000M. The winner of the E class event also get $1M and trophy over 1300M.
The other events are for horses’ classified G3 and lower animals, H and lower horses, J and K and one for L and lower.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall.
A number of added attractions and incentives have been made available including for the winners of the A class, the three year old and the two year old races. They will get an extra $500,000, $400,000 and $200,000 bonuses respectively.
The jockeys riding the respective animals in those events will all ride away with an extra $50,000. The coordinator is Nasrudeen (Jumbo Jet) Mohamed Jnr. Bugle time is 12:00 hrs.
