As Emancipation Day draws nearer, a number of activities have been planned by various groups and organisations throughout Guyana.
One such activity is planned for Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, where two days of activities starting July 31 at Lot 40 Stanleytown (eastern half) will be conducted.
The activity which is organized by the Unity for the Nations groups in collaboration with the Griffith and Walcott families and the community of Stanleytown, will be one of a kind. It is expected to showcase the rich African heritage in Guyana and capture some aspects of Guyana’s Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebrations.
On Sunday a fun day will be held to feature a number of African and traditional games. African dishes will be on display.
Monday is reserved for the traditional African celebrations including singing, dancing, drumming, storytelling and African games. Folk and ring games are also part of the day’s activities. There will be the usual African foods including the popular Cook Up, Metem with other delicacies including Quinches, Conkey, Cassava Pone and Foo Foo.
There are also expected to be various competitions where prizes will be given out to the Best Dressed male, female and family in African wear, the Best Hairstyle, eating and dancing competitions.
The activity starts at noon on both days.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
