Guyana’s karatekas competing at the just concluded 12thInternational Karate Daigaku (IKD) Caribbean Karate Championship held at the UTEC Campus in Kingston, Jamaica from July 18 – 23 turned in outstanding performances which resulted in the two teams racking in a total of 43 medals.
The Association do Shotokan Karate – Guyana ASK-G from the YMCA Dojo Headquarters and its Land of Canaan sub branch which took a team of 14-members hauled in a total of 40 medals inclusive of 14 gold, 19 silver and 7 bronze medals, while the Guyana Karate College (GKC) 3-member team copped 3 bronze medals.
The ASK-G team comprised of Leah Shariff, Shakeem Walcott, Kelly-Ann Fortune, Trevon Miller, Minakshi Pooran, Avinash Ramgolam, Tabita Goolsarran, Kemo Cornelius, Daniel Jailall, Shane Wilkinson, Jordan Kong, Roger Peroune, Hodael Agard and Keith Beaton.
The GKC members were Roland Fanfair, Navindra Soodoo and Leon Burnette.

Boys: 11 – 13 years – three (3) Silver Medals
Boys: 14 – 16 years – three (3) Silver Medals

Congratulations have been extended to both Team ASK-G and Team GKC on their achievement which has given Guyana further recognition internationally at this year’s IKD Caribbean Karate Championships.
