On the penultimate day of the team championships it has boiled down to a straight fight between Team Guyana and Barbados to decide who will be the Overall Team Champions.
In the Girls Team championships both teams have won their three matches played so far with the fourth set of matches being scheduled for yesterday, while in the Boys Team championships both teams won their respective pools with Guyana scheduled to play the OECS in one semi-finals and Barbados scheduled to play Cayman Islands in the other also yesterday.
In the latest set of matches played, Guyana defeated Trinidad & Tobago by four matches to one in the Girls Team event, while the Boys team defeated the Cayman Islands by a similar score to come out on top of their pool.
In the Girls team match against Trinidad & Tobago the Girls Under-19 No 2’s were on court first and Larissa Wiltshire easily took care of Marie Claire Barcant 11-7, 11-3, 11-1. Abosaide Cadogan made it two matches to nil as she easily disposed of Chloe Walcott in their girls Under 13 tie winning 11 – 2, 11 – 5, 11 – 5. The girls Under 19 No 1’s were next on court and it was expected that Taylor Fernandes would quickly wrap up her match against Faith Gillizeau but this was not to be as Taylor dropped the first game 9 – 11 but quickly recovered her composure to take the next three games 11 – 5, 11 – 8, 11 – 2. Makeda Harding made it four matches to love when she defeated Jinan Al Rawl 11- 7, 11 – 4, 11 – 4 in their girls under 15 tie but Guyana would drop one match when Rebecca Low was beaten by Alexandria Yearwood 11 – 3, 11 – 4, 11 – 4 in their Girls Under 17 tie.
In the Boys team match between Guyana and Cayman Islands to decide the pool winner, Guyana No 1 Under-19 Ben Mekdeci was slightly injured so the team order was adjusted to play one of the reserve players. Rithew Saywack took to the court first in the Under 19 No 2 tie against Christian Dube and quickly won the first two games 12 – 10, 11 – 8, dropped the third 7 – 11 but then wrapped up the fourth game 11 – 9. Shomari Wiltshire quickly made it two love when he disposed of Jace Jervis 11 – 5, 11 – 1, 11 – 1 in their Boys under 13 match, but Julian Jervis pulled one back for Cayman Islands when he defeated Alec Melville 11 – 3, 11 – 1, 11 – 4 in the Boys Under 19 No 1 tie.
