East Bank Demerara residents are bemoaning the deplorable state of the street, and the schools located aback of the Covent Garden/Prospect village.
The area houses three schools – the Prospect Nursery, Covent Garden Primary and the Covent Garden Secondary and their surroundings are not children-friendly.
The bridges leading to these schools are in unpleasant conditions. One of the residents yesterday morning said that a child had some days ago fallen through the Nursery School Bridge and had to be rescued by a villager. He also reported that another child nearly broke her ankle after her foot got caught in a hole on the bridge.
During the visit yesterday, it was noticed that there were huge potholes along Back Street. These were filled by the period of intense rains over the last few days rendering several sections of the area impassable to motor vehicles.
These potholes were being drained by the several “cuts” made by residents.
The residents are calling on the relevant authorities to look into the matter before the situation worsens.
