Head Coach of the University of Guyana squad currently preparing to participate in the Universities of Central America & Caribbean Futsal Championship, Challus McKinnon, speaking with Kaieteur Sport Thursday evening,
at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, said he was impressed by the team’s commitment and dedication to their preparations.
The team was seen going through some drills under the watchful eyes of McKinnon and he told this newspaper that they had started preparations some three months ago and while a few players have not had any prior experience in the format, he was impressed with their advancement in terms of the technical and tactical knowledge of the format.
“We are presently engaged in fitness drills along with getting the technical and tactical aspects of our preparations right and at some point we will then focus on the mental aspect which is very important as well,” McKinnon disclosed.
The Coach said that the fitness of the players has improved immensely and if he was to give them a grade it would be seven out of ten.
“The players dribbling ability and their offensive and defensive skills have also shown positive signs of progress and I’m positive that we will do well,” McKinnon stated.
The team continues to train three days per week and according to the Coach, they intend to step up preparations as time nears for departure.
The Championship is slated to be held from June 28-July 3 in Curacao.
