Led by Commander Assistant Commissioner, Ian Amsterdam the police in B Division Berbice are getting more and more involved in various community activities.
After successfully conducting a fitness walk in sub division number one New Amsterdam Canje area, Police from all the various subdivisions and sections recently joined with members of the community as they successfully staged another fitness walk in the number three subdivision (West Berbice) to mark the continuing 50th Anniversary Independence anniversary programme.
The 5miles walk began at No. 10 village, wended its way along the main West Coast Berbice public road and ended at the Fort Welling ton Police Station.
Commander, Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam was accompanied by a number of other senior officers from all the subdivisions including No. two (Lower and Upper Corentyne and Corentyne River and No. three (West Berbice) along with Traffic department, CID and Special Constabulary, neighbourhood police and community policing groups and some members of the public participated in the event.
At the end of the walk the ranks were carried through their (exercise) calisthenics paces by Assistant Commissioner Amsterdam and other senior ranks.
Speaking to the media, coordinator, woman Inspector Cynthia Kelly, stated that the activity was being held as part of the country’s 50 Anniversary celebrations. It was also done to keep the members of the force active and fit and also to continue the interaction with the general public.
A number of indoor and outdoor sporting activities are also being planned to mark the celebrations.
Another activity is planned for today on the Corentyne. (Samuel Whyte)
