Samuel Kingston struck a fine half century while Greg De Franca grabbed a five-wicket haul as Regal and
Mike’s Wellman recorded victories when the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc./National Sports Commission Independence T20 tournament commenced yesterday at the Everest.
Kingston struck 72 and got support from Eric Thomas 64 as Regal posted 216-6 taking first strike. Dubraj Singh had 3-25 for the Parika Defenders who were bowled out for 132 in 17 overs in reply, handing Regal victory 84 runs.
Singh made 32 and Asif Ahmad 20; David Harper and Tyrone Sanasie claimed three wickets each. Mike’s Wellman thumped Choke Success by 10 wickets. Success were sent packing for 37, taking first knock.
Hackim Mangal got 20 as De Franca bagged 5-15 and Hardat Herdatnandan 3-17. Mike’s Wellman responded with 38 without loss. Ramesh Narine made 21 and Latchman Mangal 16.
Ariel beat Fishermen XI by 33 runs.
Ariel rattled up 178-9, batting first. Raghundan Narine and Barlow Lakeram made 31 each and Mohamed Rafeek 25; Lionel Persaud took 3-24 and Ganeshram Ali 2-15. Fishermen XI were bowled out for 145 in 19.2 overs in reply. Seemangal Yadram made 31 and Ali 25; Darmendra Mohabir snared 3-22 and Michael Ifill 2-3.
Mike’s Wellman defeated Fishermen XI by three wickets. Fishermen XI got to 159 all out in 18 overs, taking
first knock. Jagdesh Persaud stroked 61; Ramesh Narine claimed 3-28. Mike’s Wellman responded with 160-8 in 18 overs. Lloyd Rooplall slammed 52 and Latchman Kallicharran 30.
Regal trounced Success by eight wickets. Success was sent packing for 126 in 19.5 overs, batting first. Mangal made 38; Troy Kippins snared 4-12, Ricky Persaud 3-28 and Sanasie 2-20. Regal replied with 127-2 in 10.4 overs. Eon Abel cracked 59 and Mahase Chunilall 40.
Ariel went down to Parika Defenders by 13 runs in a contest which had to be decided by a super over. Ariel batted first and made 132 all out. Peter Persaud scored 41 and Rafeek 28. S. Ali took 3-28 and F. Baksh 2-25. Parika reached 132 in response, Asif Ahmad made 46.
Parika managed 20 before restricting Ariel for seven in the super over. The competition continues today.
