…Guyoil to construct $2M music facility for students
The cornerstone for the Covent Garden Primary School was laid on May 26, 1966. The school will be celebrating with Guyana as the nation recognises its 50th year of Independence.
It was built by persons in the community as an independence project to accommodate children in the community, rather than having them travel to Providence Primary.
The Ministry of Education has reinforced music as an important aspect of a child’s overall development. As a result, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school thought it fitting to mark this occasion by embarking on a project to build a music room in the school compound.
The Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil), in collaboration with Trade Winds Tankers, has got on board to fund the project to the tune of over $2M.
Yesterday, various representatives of the company and members of the PTA conducted a sod-turning ceremony to initiate the project.
Guyoil official, Reggie Bhagwandin stated, “On behalf of Guyoil in partnership with our shippers – Trade Wind Tankers, to take charge of this project in terms of building the music school. We promise to have this project completed within the next three to four weeks,”
He also stated that they are hoping to complete the works so that it coincides with Guyoil’s 40th Anniversary next month.
Guyoil in a statement said that it extends congratulations to the Government and fellow citizens of Guyana, as we celebrate 50 years of Independence.
Meanwhile, the Headmistress of the school, Stacy Abraham-Gonzalez, expressed gratitude to Guyoil and Trade Wind Tankers for taking on the project which she said will aid her pupils to explore their creative side.
