Three of Guyana’s athletes who have qualified for this summer’s Rio Olympic Games have been confirmed to participate at the inaugural Aliann Pomper (AP) slated for June 18 at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora.
According to Pompey, a four-time Olympian, World Championship finalist, Commonwealth Gold and Silver medalist, Pan American and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) medalist, athletes from 11 different countries have confirmed participation to date.
Guyana’s qualifiers for Rio – Brenessa Thompson has been confirmed to run the 100m and 200m), Troy Doris will contest the Triple Jump while Winston George will be challenged in the 400m and 200m.
The likes of Adam Harris, Jason Yaw, Jenea McCammon, Jeremy Bascom, Jermaine Griffith, Kadecia Baird, Stephan James, Melissa Caddle and Alita Moore will throw down the gauntlet to fellow athletes from the British Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, US Virgin Islands and others.
