Guyana’s art, craft, music and fashion, will take the spotlight at the Jubilee Festival which kicks off on May 19,
next, at the Guyana National Stadium.
According to Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Indranauth Haralsingh, the event will be one of the biggest for the month.
The event will include four nights of entertainment, food, art, craft and fashion and is expected to attract thousands of Guyanese who will be coming home, as well as lots of overseas visitors who are interested in participating in the grand celebration, Haralsingh explained.
“Most of the hotels in the city are filled; airlines are fully booked causing Caribbean Airlines to add three more flights… The purpose of the event is to entertain everyone and fill the stadium,” Haralsingh says.
In addition, designers will be displaying their techniques at the launch of Fashion Week, tomorrow.
Catherine Martin, Liaison and Logistics Officer for the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, explained that the fashion show begins with designer Sonia Noel launching her Fashion Week on Friday.
The Guyana Fashion Council will launch their Fashion Week on Saturday while designer Donna Ramsammy-James’ new line will be launched on Sunday.
The fashion shows will start at 5:00pm and end at 8:00pm daily, after which all roads will lead to the National Stadium for the other events.
These events are among several slated for the Jubilee celebrations in the month of May. They include National Day of Prayers, GuyExpo, the Jubilee float parade, National Flag Raising Ceremony, Fine art festival, Jubilee literary festival, National swimming competition, Steel band “Pan on de walls”, National symposium, unveiling of the Independence Arch, 50th Independence anniversary gala and ‘Guyana at 50’ book launch.
