Dear Editor,
I have seen the report in the Kaieteur News on Dr David Hinds reaction to my piece on the harassment of Kwame Mc Coy. I am not surprised at Dr Hinds’ remarks even though disappointed since his own experience should have informed him that what I wrote is the truth. He however has chosen to stand by those who are practicing racist policies every day.
Before going into Dr. Hinds comment let me correct the KN misrepresentation of what I said. They wrote “…Ramotar described the police action against Mc Coy as a racist act…” I never did any such thing. I said the regime’s action to Mc Coy and others constitute racism. My remarks about the police stemmed from what Mr. Mc Coy revealed, that is the statements of three eye witnesses were removed from his file before being sent to the DPP and the Public Prosecutor. That was to ensure that he was charged, arrested, locked up for days in poor conditions and dragged before the magistrate in chains to be humiliated.
My conclusion was that the regime used the police for their political end of trying to break Kwame Mc Coy. It is actions like that that undermine the professionalism of the police. Dr Hinds seem to miss my point when I said that the treatment of Mc Coy was racist. The PNC, now APNU+AFC, is feeding the African Guyanese a full diet of racist propaganda. Those African Guyanese who dare to oppose them and their tactics are focused on and become targets. They cast them in the mould of “traitors” and “coolie stooges.” This is racism. This is historical. All the prominent African Guyanese PPP/C leaders were harassed, many had to remove from where they live fearing for their lives. This is an old tactic of the PNC.
E.M.G. Wilson was seriously attacked and harassed throughout his political career in the PPP. He was mocked, ridiculed and his house was often stoned. CV Nunes was badly beaten when he was a Minister of the PPP government in the 1960s going from Parliament Building to his office in Brickdam. Cyril Belgrave and others can relate what they had to go through at the hands of PNC things and the state apparatus which they controlled. Hinds also knows very well that a large part of the hatred by the PNC regime for Walter Rodney was because he was an African Guyanese. The racist attacks on him was that due to the fact that he was undermining the foundations of the PNC racist regime and their propaganda.
Hinds is also aware that Eusi Kwayana was also harassed in Buxton because it was felt by the PNC thugs that he was not going along with them. He himself wrote about these things. David Hinds himself suffered at the hands of the PNC because he is black. Indeed he was in prison when Walter Rodney was assassinated and the prepared propaganda was that Walter was killed at. the fence of the jail trying to blow up the prison to free among others David Hinds.
Hinds’ position has changed since Rodney’s death. He has adopted a Black Nationalist position. So he has become a friend, a comrade of those who murdered Rodney. The pressure on him appeared to have been too much for him to endure. It appears that he took the easy way out having been unable to cope with the ridicule of the PNC/APNU. Clearly being insulted and called “traitor” or “coolie stooge” must hurt. Hinds now is being “respected” by the same Party which never apologised for the assassination of Michael Forde, the Ballot Box Martyrs at No 64; Ohio Koame, Walter Rodney and others. He is now one of their heroes. He now has access to all PNC/APNU controlled and sympathetic media. Notice he has said nothing of the African Guyanese farmers in West Berbice who are also being stripped of their lands because the PPP/C administration leased it to them. This too is racist.
Unlike Rodney, his concern is no longer for the poor in general, for the working people. No now his only agenda is to have a Black Government even if it is pauperising the Guyanese working people including African Guyanese working class. Now living an easy life he stands up for the bureaucratic capitalist class that has seized power in questionable elections and has chosen to repeat nonsense about PPP recruitment of Black, Indian and Amerindian enforcers. He continues to serve as one of the chief propagandist of PNC/APNU and typically too without any evidence slide into slander. However let me repeat the attacks on Kwame Mc Coy now is a continuation of the racism inherent in the PNC/APNU. It is intended to be a warning to Black People what can happen to them if they support the PPP/C or if they come out against the PNC, APNU/AFC regime. David Hinds himself is a good example of this. Oppose go to jail and be harassed or confirm and be respected. And loved by the oppressors.
