Dear Editor;
The persons planning the routing for traffic seem to be unaware that they are responsible for how the traffic flows in many areas and take steps to alleviate any problem areas either by education or by changing the flow to make it easier for all users of the roads.
It is time that a vision is put to the travelling public for discussion. The working public should be given the opportunity to have some say in their daily frustration and possible solutions. I have been waiting to hear what the plans are dealing with traffic during the upcoming celebrations and find it amazing that “mums the word”.
By now everyone travelling during that time should have been told where will be the congestion areas and thus make arrangements to avoid that area if possible. Is it possible that those planning the festivities have not thought that you can plan so that you lower the numbers using that area at that time by telling them in advance the times of the congestion so that alternative routes or times can be suggested or/ taken.
Putting extra traffic policemen is not the only solution. Information is key and I am sure that if everyone was told in the media and elsewhere well in advance they could make the necessary preparations.
During the celebrations people will still be working and your first concerns should be the people who have to travel daily, so you have to cater for those persons as well as the additional folks visiting so that everyone gets to their destination in the quickest possible time.I hope my suggestions will be taken seriously.
