Six heavily armed gunmen managed to gain entry into the Ruimzeight Rice Processors Inc.,West
Coast Demerara (WCD) on Thursday night, overpowered the two on-duty guards and carted off $3M and other valuables.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company, Jaikeshwani (only name given), the robbery occurred some time around 23:30 hrs after the last batch of night-duty workers had left the premises.
The bandits pounced on the two guards, Lall Kedalnauth and Kaimnauth Josai and took them into the company’s canteen located in the same compound where they were ordered to lie face down on the floor. The men were subsequently duct-taped.
While one bandit stood guard over the two security personnel, the remainder of the crew proceeded into the building where they ransacked the office area before using torches to cut their way into the company’s safe.
The men, before leaving in two awaiting cars, damaged the CCTV equipment and took away some of the video footage along with five office computers.
One of the guards, Josai, when contacted yesterday stated that the men seemed to have come
out of nowhere. They were wearing hoodies and with the generator turned off after the end of the late shift, the men’s faces were unrecognisable.
“Dem tell we to lie down and don’t make noise; how they come for the money alone. The other guard-man (Lall Kedalnauth) screel (screamed) and dem lash he across he head. One of dem watch we and the rest went in (to the office area)” Josai said.
The CEO, Jaikeshwani, revealed that this was not the first hit the company had to endure, infact, some weeks ago, robbers carted off about $1M worth in machinery parts and equipment, including a wielding machine which was housed at the facility.
Jaikeshwani stated that to date, there has been no positive response from the police in apprehending the thieves. However, he is optimistic that this situation will not garner the same outcome.
