An accident on Lamaha Street late last evening has left one woman dead and another female critical. The dead woman has been identified as Narissa Spencer of Friendship, East Coast Demerara.
According to reports, the driver of a motor vehicle bearing licence plates PTT 9623, was proceeding north along Lamaha Street, between Oronoque and Albert Streets, when the vehicle struck down the woman, Narissa Spencer.
The driver reportedly tried to swerve away from the woman, but despite his efforts he still hit her. As a result of swerving the car eventually toppled and came to a standstill on its side. A passenger in the car, an unidentified female, reportedly flew out of the vehicle through the windshield. That passenger and the now dead woman were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Accident & Emergency (A&E) unit, where Spencer was pronounced dead and the other woman listed as critical. The driver escaped with minor injuries.
Narissa Spencer was reportedly crossing the street, but because of poor lighting in the area and heavy rain, the driver didn’t see her until it was too late. The car was reportedly travelling at a fast rate. This is the third such accident in as many days that has seen a fatality.
