Dear Editor,
A few weeks ago, before the Local Government Elections were held, I expressed concern at the unbelievably rapid rate the Kitty Market was being rehabilitated. It was too good to be true, and I said it was an election gimmick to make the sitting Councillors who were seeking reelection look good. Alas! As soon as the elections were done, the works slowed down to a snail’s pace, leaving the vendors to wonder when they will get back into the market.
This is because the Council has maxed out its credit that it was receiving from lumber and hardware dealers for the building materials that are being used to construct the market, and the workers have gone back to their usual pace of work. I am just sorry for the 46 stallholders. Now the roof is being painted green. Anyone surprised? That is the colour of choice these days. Could the Council say when the Market will really be completed and what the real cost will be?
