—reveals plan for canine section at City Council
Security has been placed high on the agenda of the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown (M&CC). In fact the issue is one that has been gaining the keen attention of Town Clerk, Mr. Royston King.
At a recent meeting, which was convened by King and attended by senior managers of the Council, security guards attached to the municipality were privy to plans to introduce a canine section to help bolster the security capabilities. According to King, “the Council would put in place a new canine section to provide support and complement the work of the security division.”
“You are a valuable asset to the Council,” King assured the security guards, who were also allowed to voice their concerns on matters affecting them. The guards were very vocal and brought to attention a number of urgent issues that must be addressed, and which will help them to be more efficient.
King underscored that the security personnel provide critical services to the Council and save the Council millions of dollars annually.
“I thank you for your loyalty to this Council and for doing a job that many would refuse,” he added.
At the end of the interactive forum, the Town Clerk pledged to ensure that the security staff is properly uniformed and that they are adequately equipped to carry out their duties effectively. He also committed to ensuring that the security section is adequately equipped with batons, torch lights, radio sets, and other necessary equipment.
Currently the security staff of the City Council forms part of the unfixed establishment and has an abundance of women, the majority of whom are mothers to young children. This state of affairs was revealed at the recent meeting, during which King stated that the protocol would be improved to allow more security personnel to be on locations.
Added to this, he disclosed that the physical aesthetics would be enhanced with adequate lighting and fencing.
And to offer some level of support to the several female security guards with children, it was proposed that the Council should have a night care service to provide assistance to those required to work night shifts.
